MILA Seminar - A Primer on Data Visualization

Our upcoming MILA seminar will take place on May 2nd from 2 pm to 3 pm. In this seminar, Dr. Hans-Jörg Schulz from the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University, Denmark will present a topic entitled "A Primer on Data Visualization".
Data visualization comes into play when exploring data in an I-know-it-when-I-see-it manner as well as when communicating analysis results. Aside from bar charts, line charts, and scatter plots, the literature lists hundreds of chart types for various kinds of data and different reading tasks. But which one is the right one?
This talk will provide insight into the criteria by which we choose and use charts with plenty of examples from either side of the hazy boundary between good and bad visualizations.
