In psychology, "Implicit Egotism" is the phenomenon that people base major life decisions on their own name (e.g. a disproportionate amount of people called "Louis" living in St. Louis, or a disproportionate amount of dentists who are called "Denise"). In this project Heiko Dunkel aimed to test this hypothesis by analysing if people whose name starts with "Ma" are more likely to hold a PhD in Mathematics in Germany. This presentation will start with a showcase of the original study on implicit egotism by B. Pelham et al. Heiko will then go into ways how to test hypotheses like this and how to account for biases in data during statistical testing.
